G2002 Las Vegas Players Showcase

Legends South San Diego Girls 2002 team traveled to Las Vegas for the 2017 Players Showcase. The team earned a win early Friday with a score of 4-0 and followed that with a 2-0 win in the afternoon. With a short roster, few subs and a new keeper, Legends found a way to keep the other teams from finding the net. Saturday’s morning game was a battle that tested their mental toughness through difficult calls and unrelenting Vegas heat. The final score was a 1-1 tie that nevertheless resulted in the top spot in their division earning a spot in Sunday's final game. The final game came down to a shoot out of penalty kicks. While the final PKs score of 4-1 did not favor Legends, the 02s feel proud that they gave their best effort throughout the S2002 Finalistshowcase and played some great soccer.

Many of the 2002 players have been together for years and have created strong friendships and a team bond that translates into success on the field. The core players know each other’s playing style and using clear communication can anticipate moves. Adding a new keeper to the roster will allow key players to be on the field and diversify the offense. The 2002 team continues to develop season after season and is one of the top teams in East County.  The team is now getting ready for National Cup beginning April 8, 2017 at the Silverlakes complex in Norco, California.
